KL’s journey to Australia and to Tec-NQ!
My journey began in 2007 when I started my undergraduate degree in Children’s Nursing at London South Bank University in the UK. I completed my clinical placements at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and I discovered a passion for emergency paediatrics. I graduated in 2010 and completed my graduate year at The Royal London Hospital, working in both medical and surgical paediatric units. I then spent the next 5 years working in the emergency department of West Middlesex University Hospital in London, first as paediatric staff nurse and then as a paediatric charge nurse. As well as completing my post-graduate certificate in Mentoring in Professional Practice, I spent my annual leave travelling the world and my last trip was to Australia.
It took 2 years to be granted my permanent residency and nursing registration and I jumped on a plane as soon as they were granted! I spent the next 4 years working as a registered nurse in the emergency department of The Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne. I was then seconded to work as Paediatric Liaison Nurse for Victoria Hotel quarantine during the Covid pandemic, based in the health hotel. During this year, I completed my Certificate IV in Training and assessment. I then headed north to take the position of Clinical Facilitator for Central West hospital and health service and I was based in Winton. I spent 2 years in this role, supporting both nurses and doctors working in the bush. I moved to Townsville in 2023 and I am blessed to working at Tec-NQ as the health facilitator in 2024!
Welcome to the team KL!
