Backflow Prevention

This course is required for plumbers to obtain the backflow endorsement for their licence.

Course information

This course provides training and assessment in the following unit of competency:

CPCPWT4022 Commission and maintain backflow prevention devices. This course provides learners with the skills and knowledge required to test, commission and maintain backflow prevention devices in water services. It covers the identification of requirements, preparation of work, commissioning and maintenance activities and finalisation of work including documentation.

While undertaking this qualification, plumbers gain skills and knowledge in:

  • Preparation of work
  • The identification of testing and commissioning requirements.
  • The physical testing and commissioning of devices.
  • Maintenance of devices and the completion of work finalisation processes

CMBPDRV001 Commission and maintain backflow prevention devices (Revalidation).

Upon successful completion of this course participants will receive a Statement of Attainment in CPCPWT4022 - Commission and maintain backflow prevention devices.

This competency forms part of CPC40920 Certificate IV in Plumbing and Service.

This is a licenced occupation. State and territory jurisdictions may have different licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.

  • CPCPCM2043 - Carry out WHS requirements (or equivalent)
  • CPCPWT3027 - Install backflow devices (or equivalent)
  • CPCPCM3023 - Fabricate and install non-ferrous pressure piping (or equivalent)

If you have completed these units or equivalent units in your prior studies, you must send an academic transcript/Statement of Attainment with your enrolment form. If you haven't these units, you will be required to undertake an RPL, that Tec-NQ will provide in class as part of the training.

Applicants must hold a current Queensland plumbing license from the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC).  Applicants must hold a Statement of Attainment for prerequisite units or be eligible for RPL or credit transfer of these units.

Training is delivered face-to-face, for a duration of 3 days for Backflow Prevention and 1 day for Backflow Prevention Revalidation.

This is a fee for service course with an upfront cost due on enrolment.
