Our history
2005
Tec-NQ emerged as a solution to address the trade skills shortages in 2005.
2007
Known at the time as The Australian Technical College – North Queensland, the state-of-the-art premises were completed in under six months and introduced its first senior school students.
2010
As a result of a change in Federal Government and a shift in policy, ATCNQ became Tec-NQ through a Deed of Variation. Full time apprentice training was introduced in Townsville.
2011
Tec-NQ’s training branch in Mackay opens.
2014
Tec-NQ is accredited as a boarding school to commence enrolments in 2015.
2015
Tec-NQ introduced Tec-PREP Year 10 Tec-PREP features trade skill subjects combined with academic skill building preparing students to undertake industry specific training in years 11 and 12.
2016
A ministerial announcement was made indicating that Tec-NQ would provide one of the 12 new Pathways in Technology (P-Tech) pilots in Australia.
2019
The P-Tech pathway was introduced in 2019 and Tec-NQ was recognised as a Gateway to Industry School for the Minerals and Energy and Advanced Manufacturing sectors.
2020
Tec-NQ launches its training facility in Cairns. Tec-NQ was recognised as a Gateway to Industry School for Construction and Health.
2021
Reconstruction of the Tec-NQ House, a purpose-built, state-of-the-art boarding facility, is completed.
