Course information

This qualification provides competencies to select, install, set up, test, fault find, repair and maintain electrical systems and equipment in building and premises. This may include in domestic, commercial and industrial settings.

During Training: Competency development activities are subject to regulations directly related to licencing, occupational health and safety and where applicable contracts of training such as apprenticeships.

In the workplace: The application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit require a license to practice in the workplace where work is carried out on electrical equipment or installations which are designed to operate at voltages greater than 50 V a.c. or 120 V d.c.

Other conditions may apply under State and Territory legislative and regulatory requirements.

While undertaking this qualification, apprentices gain the skills and knowledge to:

  • Examine blueprints, wiring diagrams and specifications to determine sequence and methods of operation.
  • Measure and lay out insulation reference points.
  • Select, cut and connect wire and cable to terminals and connectors.
  • Use electrical and electronic test instruments to trace and diagnose faults.
  • Repair and replace faulty wiring and defective parts.
  • Position and install electrical switchboards.
  • Connect electrical systems to power supply.
  • Test continuity of circuit.

Successful completion of the course will result in the issuance of a Certificate of Qualification and a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for UEE30820 - Certificate III in Electrotechnology (Electrician).

It includes ERAC requirements for an Electrician‘s licence.

No pre-requisites.

Participants must be employed and registered under a training contract as an apprentice.

Tec-NQ conducts a learning, literacy and numeracy assessment as part of its enrolment process.

Eligible apprentices who meet the Queensland state funding requirements will be charged a set fee of $1.60*/nominal hour. Certified training is GST free.

Nominal hours for each unit of competency are provided in the training plan.

Fees are set by the Queensland Government department that is responsible for training. Fees are subject to change over the course of an apprenticeship.

Some students may be eligible for concessions. Fee free training is available for apprentices under the age of 25, who commence or are undertaking a priority apprentice or traineeship qualification from 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2024.
