Tec-NQ held the regional competition for VET in Schools. Out of the 25 participants, three managed to get through to the state finals in Brisbane. These finalists were Tom O'Riley (engineering), Evan Anderson (Automotive) and Nick Lauder (Carpentry). They along with our Trade Facilitator, Ross Jorgensen, recently travelled to Brisbane to compete in the state finals. Our Tec-NQ competitors were 3 of 12 to compete on behalf of North Queensland and were also counted as members of the Queensland representative team.

We have the pleasure in telling you all that our guys did us proud. Although none of them came in first place they are still winners because in a field of 496 competitors they placed in 4 , 5 and 7 in their categories.

They deserve tobecongratulated in their efforts.

Next year, Tec-NQ will once again run the VET in Schools competitions in Engineering, Carpentry and Automotive so any future Year 11 students will be eligible to compete. Those in Years 11 and 12 this year will have the opportunity of competing in the open categories and as such, if they do well in the regional competition will go on to nationals, and if they do well there - may be selected for the WorldSkills International competition where they will represent Australia.

So register your interest in competing in the Tradies' Olympics, show Australia that North Queensland has talented up and coming tradesman. For more information – http://www.worldskills.org.au or ask your facilitator
